Overview
Electric vehicles are transforming the automotive industry, and at their core sit power electronics that must be efficient, compact and reliable. Traction inverters convert battery DC into three-phase AC for the motor, on-board chargers convert grid AC into battery DC, and auxiliary converters power pumps, fans and compressors. Every stage benefits from lower loss, smaller size and a gate driver that switches the module cleanly and protects it during a fault. Firstack gate drivers support both silicon IGBT and wide-bandgap SiC modules, so they fit the range of designs inside a modern vehicle, and BeiLuo supplies them with genuine traceability and application support.
Traction Inverter
The traction inverter is the heart of an electric drivetrain. It must deliver high current with high efficiency while surviving the thermal and vibration environment of a vehicle. Whether the module is silicon IGBT or SiC MOSFET, the driver determines how cleanly it switches. A 2FHC0435 digital driver core provides a 4 W drive power, a 35 A peak output and a 1700 V maximum voltage, with short-circuit detection, undervoltage lockout, soft shutdown and active clamping. The digital core makes the protection configurable, so the same hardware serves different modules and gate strategies, and its low EMI eases the automotive EMC requirement.
High-Frequency Operation
Higher switching frequency reduces current ripple and motor acoustic noise, and shrinks filter components. SiC supports this without the switching loss penalty that silicon would incur. The main design care points are gate-loop inductance and gate resistance, because fast switching amplifies ringing if the layout is loose. Keeping the commutation loop tight and measuring overshoot at the module terminals are essential, and a driver with programmable gate resistors makes the tuning practical.
On-Board Charging
On-board chargers increasingly support bidirectional power flow, so the vehicle can feed energy back to the grid or a load. Bidirectional converters switch in both directions and benefit from low loss and high switching frequency, which raise power density in a package that fits under the hood. The 1FSD08110 plug-and-play driver provides 8 W and 110 A with a robust DC/DC, which suits a high-power-density charger stage. For the highest-voltage charging paths, the HV1027P extends the range to 6500 V.
Auxiliary Drives
Auxiliary drives for pumps, fans and compressors are lower power and cost sensitive. A 2FHC0435 driver core with a compact protection set is a good fit, and it simplifies the BOM because the same core serves several auxiliary converters. A single driver family across traction, charging and auxiliary stages reduces qualification effort and spares.
Validation with BeiLuo
The BeiLuo FAE team helps match the driver to the module, set the gate resistors and protection, and confirm the design on the bench. That support shortens the path from a first prototype to a production converter.
